The Importance of Spay and Neuter in Memphis

At any given time, the Memphis Humane Society has dozens of dogs and cats ready for adoption. We can all agree that it's heartbreaking to see a homeless animal.  Can we all agree on the importance of spay and neuter in Memphis and surrounding communities?

Four Reasons to Spay or Neuter Your Pets With Our Memphis Veterinarian

If you aren't sure that you want to spay or neuter your family pets, consider these four benefits:

1. Spaying or neutering your companion pet can reduce the shelter population and thereby reduce the number of animals euthanized each year. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that 2.4 million healthy, adoptable animals are euthanized in this nation yearly.  By spaying and neutering our animals, we can positively impact this statistic.

2. Spaying helps your female pet live a longer, healthier life. Spaying your female feline or canine before her first heat offers the best protection from uterine and breast infections and tumors. Even if she has already been in heat, spaying can still help reduce future health risks.

3. Neutering your male pet reduces testicular cancers. Just like your female pets, your male pets have significant health benefits from neutering.

4. Spayed and neutered pets make better companions.  Have you ever tried to live with a female cat or dog in heat?  It's impossible and they are miserable. Your female pets will be happier and your male pets will be less aggressive once they are spayed or neutered. Additionally, your male pets are much less likely to roam the neighborhood looking for a mate.
